The Employee Free Choice Act bolsters workers’ ability to form a union by ensuring that if the majority of employees vote to form a union by signing authorization cards, the employer can no longer reject that decision. In addition to this majority vote option, workers could still choose to have a National Labor Relations Board election. This legislation gives workers more options to ensure they have the freedom to choose whether they want to form a union without facing intimidation and undue pressure from any entity. When workers earn a decent wage, they are able to participate in the economy and support the businesses that are a necessary part of economic recovery. The Employee Free Choice Act and unions are essential to ensuring that American workers earn a decent wage. History shows workers united in labor unions have been responsible for almost every benefit wage earners currently have in this country. Joe Biden states it’s time to restore the dignity of work and give workers back the power to earn what they’re worth. We should stop companies from classifying low wage workers as managers in order to avoid paying them the overtime they’ve earned. We have to stop Republican attempts to strip away workers’ rights to form unions and collectively bargain.
