Investing In Renewable Energy
Elizabeth Warren states that climate change is real, it is worsening by the day. Warren supports investing in renewable energy. Investing in clean energy technology is investing in our health, our environmental security, our national security, and our economic security.
Elizabeth Warren believes climate change is real, it’s man-made, and our government needs to take bold action and use all the tools available to combat it before it’s too late. Building on some earlier plans to address climate change, Warren new plan attacks it by using the power of public markets to accelerate the adoption of clean energy.
In September 2018, Warren spearheaded a bill called the Climate Risk Disclosure Act, which would require public companies to report their greenhouse gas emissions and other climate risks. In a statement, Warren said climate change was "a real and present danger — and it will have an enormous effect on the value of company assets" and that the legislation would "use market forces to speed up the transition from fossil fuels to cleaner energy — reducing the odds of an environmental and financial disaster without spending a dime of taxpayer money."
Warren also supports the "idea" of a Green New Deal, a slate of bills that would invest in clean-energy jobs and infrastructure to help boost the economy and limit carbon emissions. In March 2019, when the Green New Deal came up for a vote in the Senate, Warren and 41 other Senate Democrats voted "present", which was anticipated as ahead of the vote as a means of most Democrats not having to take a formal position on the legislation. A Senate aide for Warren told Axios that Senator Warren has been a longtime advocate of aggressively addressing climate change and shifting toward renewables, and supports the idea of a Green New Deal to ambitiously tackle our climate crisis, economic inequality, and racial injustice.
