Defend the Affordable Care Act

Joe Biden states we should defend and build upon the Affordable Care Act to ensure every American has access to quality, affordable health care. We should give every American the right to choose a public option like Medicare. We should also offer premium-free access to the public option Medicare for people who would otherwise qualify for Medicaid, but for the fact they have been denied access to it by governors and state legislatures who have refused the Affordable Care Act’s Medicaid expansion. We must ensure that they are receiving coverage that matches what they would have access to through Medicaid. And, we should dedicate the full force of our nation’s expertise and resources to tackle our greatest public health challenges, including cancer, Alzheimer’s, opioid addiction, and mental health. Today, even for people with health insurance, our health care system is too expensive and too hard to navigate. The Biden Plan will not only provide coverage for uninsured Americans, it will also make health care more affordable and less complex for all. According to Biden campaign, “whether you’re covered through your employer, buying your insurance on your own, or going without coverage altogether, the Biden Plan will give you the choice to purchase a public health insurance option.” Everyone, in other words, will have the option to enroll in the public option with potentially big implications for how employers decide to structure their health benefits. And the campaign further state that “as in Medicare, the Biden public option will reduce costs for patients by negotiating lower prices from hospitals and other health care providers.” Biden believes that every American has a right to the peace of mind that comes with knowing they have access to affordable, quality health care.
